@aw very true! in its current state, 90+% of users are on the main bsky hosted PDSes (although hosting your own PDS is remarkably simple for a technical user). i think the medium/long-term goal, as stated by the team, is to enable future alternatives to the existing bsky.social. in the event the company goes rogue/dies/whatever, users should be able to click one button to move elsewhere. but yeah, i'm just happy there are alternative takes on decentralized social media.

@aw feel free to ignore if you don't wish to engage, but i don't believe that's a fair take. it's outwardly "over engineered" because the problem is inherently complex—and it's pretty sound engineering under the hood. for instance, the ability to move between PDSes, the extensible lexicon, composable moderation (blocklists are built into the protocol!) etc. all while maintaining mom-comprehensible UX is pretty commendable. and unfortunately, we can't really say the same about Mastodon (let alone the wider fedi).
And really, the far-right isn't generally vegan at all. They disregard any claims that cows are treated poorly and don't believe the dairy industry is problematic. A sad state of affairs in general.
It's rather sad that veganism in India is overshadowed by purity politics (Hindu nationalism and its association with vegetarianism). The far-left rhetoric is largely anti-vegan, often brandishing the "privilege" defense and "what about the lower class that cannot afford it", or worse still, "factory farming isn't as big of a problem here".
A Proposed Tramway for Bangalore, 1874
been hacking away on a read-only reddit client; several other good bits: no account system, single binary, easily selfhostable, nearly zero js, dark mode etc.
- operates well on mobile
- free of ads and promoted posts
been about two weeks since i turned vegan after watching "dominion" [0]. one of the most hardhitting docus ive watched, up there with "dear zachary". not a mealtime video.
@ru The only stable SSG is the one you write :^) Third party ones don't care about your site as much as you do. And writing an SSG is always fun.
Updated my site's footer with the new fedi and Bluesky icons!
Composable moderation is pretty awesome tee bee haich. Fedi’s acting like a jealous older sibling towards Bluesky’s success, lol. It’s ok, the fediverse isn’t going away.
Not to detract from fedi's success but it's remarkable how fast Bluesky has been growing. They made the right tradeoffs between usability for the average joe, and overall platform freedoms. Bluesky is to Signal is as Fedi is to XMPP.
Neat little GitHub feature for those (like me) that dislike the default edge-to-edge file/directory views.
re: nerdery, nix, shells
@mehluv no, it does not. It runs an activation script that executes as a systemd service but there is no persistent background process.re: nerdery, nix, shells
re: nerdery, nix, shells
@mehluv home-manager doesn't "constantly run". It's just a framework of sorts that lets you configure your home (dotfiles, configs, et cetera) using Nix.re: nerdery, nix, shells
